Before the last of the leaves fall - a poem

Before the last of the leaves fall
The world stands still for a moment.
No creature stirs,
no word is uttered;
even the gentle breeze pauses its eagerness
to pluck the leaf from the safety of its branch.
For a wonderous moment
all breaths are held to marvel at the
strength of the fragile leaf as it
lets go to fall into the void.
In its gentle descent,
the leaf is contented
for it knows, soon it will
rise to grasp the heights
once more.
